Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Abhishek Banerjee, the national general secretary of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), addressed the party leadership during a virtual meeting, issuing a stern warning regarding extortion happening under his name and that of the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC). He informed party members that complaints had been raised about individuals using his office and I-PAC's name to promise positions in exchange for money. To combat this, Banerjee provided a contact number, 8142681426, for verification and urged party workers to report any such activities.
Banerjee's statement comes amid concerns of corruption within the party, with allegations of manipulation and monetary dealings being made by individuals claiming to represent I-PAC. The TMC general secretary emphasized that anyone using his or I-PAC’s name inappropriately should be immediately reported to his office.
Additionally, Banerjee highlighted the party’s performance in key constituencies, notably Jorasanko and Chaurangi. He acknowledged that TMC had not performed well in these areas, which are crucial for the party’s strength in the region. He reassured party members that steps would be taken to address the concerns raised by the underperformance in these constituencies.
In a significant move, Banerjee announced that leadership changes would be implemented soon within the TMC. He confirmed that district and block presidents would be replaced based on performance evaluations. The decision reflects the party's intention to reorganize and strengthen its leadership at the local level, especially in light of recent electoral challenges.
Banerjee’s remarks underline the importance of improving organizational efficiency and ensuring that local leadership aligns with the party’s goals for future elections. The planned changes are expected to help TMC regain its footing in areas where its performance has faltered.
The developments come as the party prepares for upcoming elections, with a focus on addressing internal challenges and enhancing its outreach. Banerjee’s announcements point to a proactive approach in ensuring that TMC remains competitive and disciplined in the lead-up to the polls.
